About me

I’m Scott Sheppard. I help people and organisations think more clearly about what they’re trying to say, and say it in a way that's persuasive and stands up to scrutiny.

I learned the weight of words over fifteen years working in education, and later during my time at the BBC and in the UK Civil Service, much of it behind the scenes, where language carries real consequences.

Born in the heart of Middle England, I arrived at roughly the same moment humanity was taking its first lunar steps. I’m a Gemini; moonstone is my birthstone. What either signifies remains unclear. As far as I know, I neither have a twin nor have been to the moon.

My mother is American, and my father is English. I have a passport from both countries. Apparently, this gives me the right to wander into any country of my choosing, albeit apologetically.

What I believe

Good copywriting isn’t about grabbing attention. It’s about clarity, intelligence, and emotional precision, a careful combination that allows people to decide. When psychology, language, and narrative are blended correctly, communication stops being noise and starts producing change.

Every project begins with listening. I take the time to understand your strategy, audience, and intent before a single word is written. From there, I translate that understanding into language that's precise, considered, and fit for purpose.
 
I work with all manner of words: across policy, thought leadership, ghostwriting, and campaigns, and always aiming for language that feels intelligent without strain - writing that does its work quietly and lasts.
 
My clients include Silicon Valley founders, Ivy League institutions, medical professionals, major media organisations, military veterans, and UK government departments. I also work with entrepreneurs looking for a piece of writing that genuinely moves their work forward.

All of my activities are driven by strong research and an aesthetic sense that favours the elegant and simple over the flashy or baroque, and a keen desire to learn, teach, and bring alive.
